Ages 7 and up ( 3/4 – 1 hour class)
Tap is a uniquely American form of dance that evolved in the early 20th century. Our students are trained in both the grounded street style of rhythm tap as well as the more lifted style of Broadway tap. In rhythm tap, the taps become a percussive instrument, reminiscent of the vaudevillian “hoofers.” In Broadway tap, the dancers incorporate jazz movement, especially the arms and upper body, showcased so eloquently by the Radio City Rockettes. Dancers will improve their musicality, rhythm, and timing, by taking this surprisingly aerobic form of dance.
